Never write off Reds — Dickov

PAUL Dickov believes Manchester City further outlined their Barclays Premier League title ambitions in the 6-1 demolition of United at Old Trafford — but warned the Red Devils should never be written off.
The Athletic boss, who wrote himself into City folklore with a famous injury-time equaliser against Gillingham in the Division Two play-off final at Wembley in 1999, was delighted to see the Blues run riot against their rivals.
But he was relieved to see winning manager Roberto Mancini and captain Vincent Kompany maintain a modest tone in their post-match interviews.
Dickov said: “I believed City were title contenders even before the derby so for me, it only served to reiterate what can be achieved when everyone performs. But the one thing you can never do is write off United. Roberto Mancini and Vincent Kompany were very modest and respectful afterwards and that is the right approach to take.
“Remember in 1996, when United lost 5-0 to Newcastle and 6-3 at Southampton in the space of a week? They went on to win the league that season.”
