Moorside ace hoping to be the green baize star of Bangalore
Snooker: OLDHAM snooker star Michael Wild will be chasing World Championship glory later this month.

The Moorside potting machine is one of two Englishmen taking part in the International Billiards and Snooker Federation’s World Championship in Bangalore, India, from November 28 to December 3.

Wild (30) finished fourth in the England Association of Snooker and Billiards Association ranking list for 2011.

Only the number one qualifies for the top 96 in the world and a place on the professional tour.

However, Wild’s efforts have earned him a spot in the world amateur event in India following the withdrawal of the number-three ranked player, whose wife is expecting a baby.

Two players from 39 countries will be taking part in the World Championship, and an extended run in the competition would certainly earn the Moorside man plenty of kudos.

And Wild has not given up hope of forcing his way into the professional ranks. He said: “Mark Davis is 39-years-old and he has got in there, so there is still time for me yet.”
