I WAS pleased to see Manchester City's Joleon Lescott earn such good reviews for his performance in England's 1-0 victory over world champions Spain at Wembley.
Joleon has established himself as a first-team regular at the Etihad Stadium and has enhanced his chances of inclusion in the Euro 2012 squad with a commanding display for the Three Lions.
He is strong, great in the air and has two good feet. In fact, I think at City he complements skipper and fellow centre-half Vincent Kompany well because he is left-footed and adds balance to the heart of the defence.
After a slow start to life at the club he found his form at the end of last season and has been firing on all cylinders this term. The key is keeping him fit and he has enjoyed a clean bill of health since the start of the current campaign.
Barclays Premier League action returns this weekend and we entertain Newcastle United on Saturday.
City and the Magpies are the only two teams yet to have tasted defeat in the top-flight this season. Hopefully by the end of the match we will be the only side able to make that claim.
I think they are the surprise package in everyone's eyes. Most people probably expected them to struggle but Alan Pardew has guided them to third in the table and transformed them into a solid defensive unit.
They do not have supestars but every player seems to know his role and they are playing as a team. It is a long time since anyone has been able to say that about Newcastle.
We will have to be at our best because they are flying high on merit.
I am pleased for the Geordie fans. Newcastle are a massive club with a wonderful history and a huge fanbase.
They are all fanatical in that part of the country, especially at St James' Park.
