Lancs look to future
Date published: 06 April 2012
VISITORS to the home of Lancashire Cricket Club will see a very different Old Trafford this summer.
Gone are the old and decaying stands which forced club officials to embark on a massive rebuilding project.
In their place are the early stages of state-of-the-art buildings which will bring Old Trafford in line with Lord’s, The Oval and Trent Bridge as one of the country’s most modern cricket stadiums.
All told, the project will cost £70million. Already, more than £40 million has been shelled out.
Overseeing the development is Lancashire chief executive and secretary Jim Cumbes, who is excited by the changing face of Old Trafford.
He said: “The facilities here were not dilapidated, but they were aged and needed updating.
“The views from the two new stands which are going up will be fantastic and they should be ready by the end of June.”
