ROYTON’S Joe O’Regan is closing in on a place in the Great Britain water polo squad bidding for glory in the London 2012 Olympics.
The 21-year-old has built up a solid reputation on the international stage over the last 12 months.
And he was called up for the narrow loss to Russia in the FINA World League clash at Manchester Aquatics Centre.
Former Royton Water Polo Club member O’Regan now lives in Hungary, where he plays for Pecs.
Royton secretary Michelle Flint said: “Joe has gone from strength to strength over the last year or so and has successfully made the step up to international water polo.
“He did well against Russia in the FINA World League despite the fact Great Britain didn’t win.
Another Royton youngster, Ella Chadderton (19), is also hoping to be selected for the Olympics.
