SPORTS BETTING:
THE Tournament Players Championship at Sawgrass, affectionately known as the fifth major, gets under way in Florida tomorrow with a stellar field chasing glory.
The fact that Tiger Woods is 25-1 to win the tournament speaksvolumes about the former world number one’s decline – and the strength of the opposition against him.
Northern Ireland sensation Rory McIlroy, who had a near miss Stateside last weekend, is a worthy 10-1 jolly, with England stars Luke Donald and Lee Westwood 14-1 joint second favourites.
Sawgrass is a course which demands straight driving.
Tee to green is the order of the day rather than peppering the flagsticks, and two players who fit the bill are Sergio Garcia and Mark Wilson.
The former has won here before and is overpriced at 40-1, while Wilson is a player I earmarked for this tournament when watching him play so steadily in the Accenture Matchplay earlier in the season. He is a huge price at 225-1.
MANCHESTER City are 1-8 to clinch the Premier League title this weekend after their crucial win at Newcastle on Sunday.
Bitter rivals United are out to 6-1 and it is almost inconceivable the Blues will let it slip now.
Despite the Mark Hughes connection, I can’t see QPR spoiling the party for Roberto Mancini’s side on Sunday.
RONNIE O’Sullivan was 10-1 at the start of the World Snooker Championship, but he made a mockery of those odds with a comfortable success.
The Rocket is 6-1 to repeat the act next season, with Judd Trump second-best at 13-2.
RECOMMENDATIONS: TPC at Sawgrass, Sergio Garcia, e.w., 40-1, Mark Wilson, e.w., 225-1 (both Bet 365, quarter odds for a place, six places).
