They love a parade!
Date published: 15 May 2012
MORE than 100,000 Manchester City fans lined the streets to watch the team celebrate their first Premier League title win in 44 years.
Only one man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly. There were no major incidents.
Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney said: “We estimate around 100,000 City fans came to the city centre to cheer on their team and there was a friendly, carnival atmosphere throughout. “
Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: "Manchester City fans have waited a long time for this — as can be seen from the thousands of people celebrating their victory. Suddenly the last 40 years of chasing the championship doesn't seem to matter.
“Manchester takes centre stage across the world once again."
Manchester City apologised to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson after Carlos Tevez held up a banner ridiculing his former manager during the title celebrations.
Tevez also expressed his regret after displaying the sign, which read 'RIP Fergie', during City's celebratory open–top bus parade through the city.
The 28 year old is thought to have been passed the placard by a fan.
A City spokeswoman said: "The creation of the tasteless material is in itself reprehensible and in accepting and brandishing it, Carlos has made a significant error of judgement.
"The club wishes to express its sincerest apologies.”
