SWIMMING:
JESSICA Lloyd warmed up for the London 2012 Olympics in fine style by claiming two medals in the British Gas ASA National Championships.
Competing in the 100 metres freestyle at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, the 17-year-old Saddleworth swimmer took second spot in 55.34 sec.
She trailed Loughborough’s Amy Smith (55.03) but saw off the challenge of Rebecca Turner, of Sheffield (55.59).
She also took a third place in the 50m freestyle, finishing in 25.79 sec behind Smith (25.36), and Darya Stepanyuk from the Ukraine (25.63).
Her displays came in the final event prior to the Olympics.
Mum Ann said: “Everything is positive at the moment and we all have our fingers crossed for the summer. It is great to give Oldham something to be positive about.”
Oldham Hulme Grammar pupil Jessica Fullalove (15) was also in action, taking ninth place in the 200m backstroke final.
Though Fullalove wasn’t selected for the Olympics, she will be in the European Junior Championships in Antwerp next month, swimming in the 100m and 200m backstroke races.
