DELIGHT . . . Joe O’Regan is heading to the Olympics.
Waterpolo:
ROYTON’S Joe O’Regan has clinched a place in the Great Britain waterpolo squad for the London 2012 Olympics.
The 20-year-old has become an ever-present over the last 12 months after building a fine reputation following his debut in 2010.
"To say I am over the moon is an understatement. It is difficult to put into words just how much it means to me to be an Olympian in this country,” he said.
"The dream has become reality and now I can actually look ahead with full confidence.”
O'Regan and his GB colleagues jet out to Hungary in a fortnight for a pre-Olympics training camp.
Failsworth’s Jade Smith (19) is a reserve in the women’s set-up, to be called up to London if required.
She said: “At 19 it is nice, because I am one of the youngest in the squad.
“It comes as a bit of a surprise, although I suppose a small part of me had a feeling I could get a reserve place.”
