BOXING:
OLDHAM’S Ronnie Heffron will take on Liam Smith in a title fight in September after comfortably seeing off Peter McDonald in London.
Razor Ronnie’s Failsworth-based trainer Anthony Farnell is awaiting further details from promoter Frank Warren, with the specific title and location still unclear.
The bout is almost certain to take place at Oldham Sports Centre or in Liverpool.
Welterweight Heffron (21) has twice missed out on scheduled Central Area title fights.
Heffron will hope it’s third time lucky when the pair try again in September.
Ronnie’s 20-year-old brother, Mark, who also trains at Farnell’s gym, is still recovering from the broken hand which ruled him out of the Irish Middleweight Prizefighter in May.
Farnell cannot yet put a date on his return.
