OLYMPICS:
THE talking has ended and the action is about to get underway for our three Olympians.
Diggle swimmer Jessica Lloyd (17), Royton water polo star Joe O’Regan (20) and 24-year-old hockey player Nicola White, a former Hulme Grammar student, will represent Great Britain at London 2012.
Lloyd is part of the 4x100 metres freestyle relay squad going for glory in a tough category tomorrow.
As if the enormity of the event wasn’t daunting enough, the relay team have been told their heats are the last of the morning.
It means Lloyd and Co. will sit through two-and-a-half hours of swimming action before taking to the pool themselves, just before lunchtime.
Should they prevail, they will battle it out with rival nations in the final tomorrow night.
White’s campaign gets underway on Sunday, when Great Britain face Pool ‘A’ rivals Japan at 7pm.
O’Regan and his Great Britain colleagues hope to get the better of Group ‘B’ opponents Romania on Sunday at 6.20pm in the preliminary round.
Tuesday sees them battle it out with Serbia before meeting the USA 48 hours later.
Hungary stand in their way on Saturday, August 4, as do Montenegro two days later.
