MANCHESTER City are raring to go after our 3-2 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield at Villa Park.
It was great to get under way with a victory and now all eyes are on Sunday, when we open the defence of our Barclays Premier League title at home to promoted Southampton.
I am pleased the first league fixture is at home and, while we will treat the Saints with the respect they deserve, if we play to our best we will be confident of getting three points.
I feel we thoroughly deserved the win against Chelsea and we played some good football in the second half.
Carlos Tevez stood out — he looks a lot trimmer after completing a full pre-season schedule and he will be a key man again this term.
Put simply, Carlos is the best player I have seen in all my years at the club.
Meanwhile, we welcomed a new face to the Etihad Stadium this week when Jack Rodwell completed his switch from Everton.
It always gives the place a lift when someone signs and this has been no exception.
Jack is familiar with many of the lads already at the club, mainly due to his involvement with the England squad.
He and City team-mates Adam Johnson and James Milner are likely to be given a run-out by Roy Hodgson in tomorrow’s friendly against Italy.
Jack is a young, driven and talented individual with a bright future ahead of him and I am excited to see him in a City shirt.
