WHAT A TEAM: star swimmer Ben Prcoter with his grandparents, Dilys and Dennis.
DIGGLE’S Ben Procter will enjoy the support of his jet-set family when he swims for Great Britain in the forthcoming Paralympics in London.
The 22 year old, who has learning difficulties, will compete in the 100 metres backstroke on Friday week and 200m freestyle two days later. Cheering him on will be his uncle Philip whose family is flying out from Denver, Colorado. They join Ben’s mum Jane, grandparents, uncle and aunt and cousins in the crowd.
An honorary member of Saddleworth Swimming Club, Ben clinched his place after bagging silver in the British Gas Swimming Championships, recording the second fastest time in the world for his heat in his section.
Ben clinched a silver and bronze at the European Championships in Berlin last July, a bronze at the World Championships in Eindhoven, Holland, in 2010, and three silver medals at the Euros in Iceland 2009. In 2007, Ben won four gold medals and 11 medals in total at the World Championships.
