SPORTS BETTING:
THESE are worrying times for Oldham Athletic FC and their loyal fans.
One point from three matches - two of them at home – is hardly encouraging. Already chairman Simon Corney has voiced his concerns — and it’s not just he and the fans who are alarmed by Athletic’s start.
The bookies have taken note, too: Bet Victor go just 6-4 about Athletic being relegated fron npower League One.
Only crisis club Portsmouth (2-5), whom they play on Saturday, are shorter in the betting.
Latics boss Paul Dickov needs a change of fortune – and quickly.
City and United have looked short of their best in their opening two fixtures, but they continue to head the title betting.
City are set to make signings before Friday’s transfer deadline and are favourites at 13-10 to retain their crown. United can be backed at 11-5, while Chelsea look a touch of value at 7-2.
ANDREW Strauss was ready to quit the England captaincy today, a great shame.
Kevin Pietersen is a fine batsman, but his selfish antics have left a trail of destruction and I can’t forgive him for inflicting such damage on one of the best leaders this country’s cricket team has had.
Strauss is unlikely to play for England again. I hope the same can be said of Pietersen after today’s Lord’s press conference.
THE announcement of Europe’s Ryder Cup team has brought next month’s competition into focus, but our chances of retaining the cup are not rated highly by the odds layers.
Europe are 6-4 to win at Medinah, with the Yanks a best-priced 4-5. On a monster course with shaved rough, America’s young, big hitters are likely to prosper.
ANDY Murray went into the US Open on a high after his Olympic tennis success.
He continues his campaign tonight against Ivan Dodig and is just 4-1 to go all the way and land his first grand slam prize.
Murray will never have a better chance, but faces strong opposition in two players he beat in the Olympics – Novak Djokovic (11-8) and Roger Federer (5-2).
