Sascha Kindred - more medals
OLDHAM-EDUCATED Sascha Kindred claimed a silver medal in the SM6 200 metres individual medley last night in the London 2012 Paralympics.
China's Xu Qing took gold, cutting an astonishing 3.37secs off Kindred's world record in the process.
The Briton had not been dislodged from the top of the podium since first claiming gold in Sydney 12 years ago and was fourth at halfway before his breaststroke leg pulled him up to second, narrowly behind Xu.
It looked as though it would be a stroke for stroke duel but the Chinese pulled away to touch in 2mins 38.62secs.
Kindred, who used to live in Limeside and train at Oldham swimming pool, is married to fellow Paralympian swimmer Nyree Kindred. Both have cerebral palsy.
He is back in action tonight in S6 50m freestyle.
