Giggs delighted with new boys
Date published: 14 September 2012
MANCHESTER United veteran Ryan Giggs has hailed the impact made by summer arrivals Shinji Kagawa and Robin van Persie.
Welshman Giggs (38) claims the pair — who are both injury doubts for tomorrow’s home clash with Wigan — have made the rest of the squad raise their game.
"You hope the big players you sign fit in straight away," said Giggs, who will make his 600th Premier League appearance if he plays.
"With Shinji and Robin it has happened straight away, which is great. It gives everyone a lift in the squad. Training is a lot sharper and we are all fighting for places, which is what you want.
"It just ups the performance level."
Champions Manchester City are hoping to move up a gear as they return to Premier League at Stoke tomorrow. Roberto Mancini's men have made a solid start to their title defence without getting close to their devastating best.
With their mouth–watering Champions League trip to Real Madrid to come on Tuesday, they will now look to lift the intensity at the Britannia Stadium.
