BOXING: FAILSWORTH trainer Anthony Farnell has urged his friend Ricky Hatton to show “110-per-cent commitment” to his boxing comeback.
The Hitman confirmed his return to the ring in a press conference. His opponent at the Manchester Arena on November 24 will be announced in the near future.
Former WBU middleweight champion Farnell, who trains Oldham up-and-comers Mark and Ronnie Heffron at his gym in Failsworth, is rooting for
Hatton to do well — but hopes he has come out of retirement for the right reasons.
He said: “I wish Ricky all the luck in the world and I hope it works out for him because he’s a great lad and he gave us all some unbelievable entertainment throughout his career.
“I don’t know why he has decided to return — some say it is money but he earned millions, so I doubt that. But something has motivated him.
“He has to give 110-per-cent commitment to the cause, mainly because this is such a dangerous sport if you do not do that.
“If he genuinely wants this, I would love nothing more than to see him succeed. However, if he has any doubts, I would much prefer to see him put his feet up and enjoy his well-earned retirement after years of achieving so much.”
