Kagawa blow for United
Date published: 24 October 2012
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been left sweating on Shinji Kagawa's fitness after the Japan midfielder twisted his knee during the first half of last night's thrilling 3–2 Champions League comeback win over Braga in Group H.
The result virtually guaranteed the Red Devils a place in the knock-out phase, with three games remaining.
Kagawa was due for tests today to discover the extent of the problem: "He struggled on for 20 minutes, but we don't know the extent of it at the moment."
For the eighth time in 12 games United found themselves behind, but two goals from Javier Hernandez either side of Jonny Evans' second in three games gave United their win.
But with Chelsea to come - twice - and a Premier League home game against Arsenal before the rematch with Braga in a fortnight, Ferguson knows his team could be in trouble unless he finds an answer to the defensive problems.
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is convinced his side still has a chance of Champions League glory.
The Barclays Premier League champions have collected only one point from their opening games against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
To progress from Group ‘D’, the side must make the most of back–to–back games against Dutch champions Ajax, starting tonight in Amsterdam.
But Kompany insisted: "We look at the competition thinking we have a big chance and are capable of winning every game.”
