MANCHESTER City played some great football in the 3-1 win at Newcastle and we could have been out of sight by half-time.
Samir Nasri, before he left the field with an injury, and David Silva shone as we created chance after chance at St James’ Park.
With strikers Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero linking up well together, there was a real fluency to our play, something Alan Pardew’s side struggled to come to terms with in that first period.
Credit to the Magpies, they were much better after the interval and our lads showed another side to their game — they dug in, worked their socks off and got the reward of three points.
A lot has been said about the six-point gap at the top of the table, with United at the summit.
But what we must remember is that our squad is packed with fantastic professionals and there is a lot of football to be played this season.
It was nice to get back on track with a victory and hopefully we can keep a bit of momentum going throughout the festive period.
Next up, Reading visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. There are no easy games in the Barclays Premier League, and it can bite you in the backside when you least expect it.
That said, Brian McDermott’s side currently look like candidates for a relegation scrap and, if we produce anything like the football we played last time out, we will be confident of victory.
All we can do is concentrate on our own performance and aim for another maximum points haul.
On Sunday night I had a fantastic time at James Milner’s inaugural charity ball, ‘Christmas in Wonderland’.
The James Milner Foundation raises money and awareness for the NSPCC, Help For Heroes and Leukaemia Research as well as supporting a number of regional initiatives.
The Foundation is a charity to promote healthy recreation for the benefit of young people in the UK through taking part in sports.
A great night was had by all. And after a day off yesterday, it was back to work today and all eyes on the Reading game this weekend.
