Milner was main man

A FINE team effort resulted in Manchester City’s first league victory at Arsenal since 1975 — but my pick of the bunch was James Milner.

He was absolutely fantastic, showing the levels of desire, workrate and hunger for which he is known — and he scored a superb goal, too.

He is one of those lads who could probably play in any outfield position — an English Pablo Zabaleta!

We had virtually killed the game inside 10 minutes and definitely won the midfield battle in a hard-earned 2-0 triumph.

Gareth Barry and David Silva pulled the strings and Javi Garcia put in arguably his best performance since joining the club last summer.

With Yaya Toure away on international duty with Ivory Coast for the next five or so weeks, and Jack Rodwell working his way back to fitness, Javi’s influence in the centre of the park is crucial.

Obviously the one negative point was Vincent Kompany’s dismissal: a decision the club will appeal. In my day it would have been considered a great tackle.

Vincent lifted his foot, but with no intent. Hopefully the appeal will be successful and our captain won’t miss the next three matches.

Saturday sees Fulham at the Etihad Stadium. The Cottagers are not traditionally good travellers but there are no easy games in this league. It’s important for us to pick up where we left off against Arsenal.
