New doubt over Fletcher
Date published: 18 January 2013
Darren Fletcher is again battling to save his career.
The Manchester United midfielder seemed to have conquered his colitis problem when he managed to play three games out of four at the end of November.
But since starting at Reading on December 1, the 28 year old has managed only a couple of brief substitute appearances.
Last night United confirmed he would miss the remainder of the season to have surgery that may help him conquer the chronic condition.
A United statement said: "While it is frustrating for Darren and the club that he won't be able to contribute further during this campaign, this decision has been taken with our full support in the best interests of his long-term health.”
Fletcher has struggled with the problem since March, 2011.
