Bikes to take over the city again
Date published: 28 June 2013
FOLLOWING the resounding success of last year’s sold-out event, the Great Manchester Cycle returns on Sunday.
The run starts and ends at the Etihad Stadium — and passes rival venue Old Trafford along the way
The route also includes a stretch of the Mancunian Way, normally off-limits to cyclists.
The event caters for all abilities, from club cyclists to families.
Riders have a choice of three routes, over 13 miles, 26 miles or 52 miles. The last of those has almost sold out.
Among the riders will be Joanna Rowsell, who won gold alongside Laura Trott and Dani King in the women’s team pursuit at the London 2012 Olympics.
Last year’s ride attracted more than 7,000 entrants, many of whom were taking part in an organised cycling event for the first time.
