Rooney ‘gutted’ at early return
Date published: 12 July 2013
Wayne Rooney has admitted he is “gutted” to miss Manchester United’s tour of the Far East and Australia.
Only 16 hours after his arrival in Thailand, Rooney was on his way home again after scans revealed a torn hamstring.
If Rooney is ruled out for a month he could feature in the Community Shield game against Wigan at Wembley on August 11.
The incident came only a day after manager David Moyes revealed Rooney had returned for pre–season training in his best shape for years.
Moyes repeated yesterday that Rooney is not for sale. But there has still been no word from the player about his intentions, even though there has been plenty of opportunity to silence the rumour mill should he so wish.
Chelsea and Arsenal are both said to be interested, as is Paris St Germain.
