Van Persie sinks Wigan to take Community Shield

DOUBLE goalscorer Robin van Persie and captain Nemanja Vidic are optimistic for the season ahead after David Moyes secured a trophy at the first attempt as Manchester United boss.
Van Persie led the line in the absence of Wayne Rooney and scored twice in the 2–0 FA Community Shield defeat of Wigan, who won the FA Cup in May before being relegated from the premier league.
“We wanted to win for the manager – it’s important for him and the staff to win trophies,’ Van Persie said. “To get the first one in after only a month or so is great.”
Vidic added: “It’s good to feel from the first day how it is to win a trophy with Man United.
“I remember the first time I lifted a trophy with Man United. I was really excited.
“This year people question us even more, because Sir Alex left. We know how good he is and how many trophies he won for the club but we want to prove we can win the trophies again.
“Big games are coming and we have to be ready and work hard to achieve what we want to and that’s to win more trophies.”
