RONNIE Heffron was in great form as he cruised to his latest professional victory at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.
But the contest wasn’t the British title eliminator originally scheduled - initial opponent John Thain pulled out on Friday after cutting an eye in training.
Oldham’s 23-year-old light-middleweight prospect Heffron was instead matched with tough journeyman Max Maxwell from Birmingham and won convincingly over six rounds.
Heffron’s trainer Ben Lancaster said: “We were all disappointed when the proposed fight was called off, but another fight on another big show will do Ronnie no harm.
“Ronnie controlled the fight well. He won every round. He dominated from start to finish.”
Heffron will be back in action “as soon as possible”, but Lancaster is unsure whether or not another date with Thain will be next.
