FORMER Brookdale assistant pro Grant Hamerton used an early eagle as the launchpad to success in the Lakes Classic at Windermere.
Hamerton, who was assistant to current professional Tony Cupello at Brookdale for four years, is now the pro at Pike Fold Golf Club in Bury.
The Lakes event was reduced from 36 holes to 18 because of poor weather, and Hamerton made a flying start with his eagle at the 12th hole — his third — before adding five more birdies and a couple of bogeys.
His five-under-par 62 earned him a two-shot victory over a group of seven players which included Manchester Open champion David Shacklady.
