ROBIN van Persie stated his intentions in no uncertain terms at Swansea on Saturday.
The Premier League’s most prolific striker, winner of the Golden Boot for the last two
seasons, is determined to make it a hat-trick and fire Manchester United to more title glory.
The Dutchman’s two goals for United cemented his place as front runner for the season’s top goal scorer.
A general quote of 5-2 is hard to argue with, given his amazing record, sublime talent and
clinical finishing. But this season there’s a host of likely challengers. And that 5-2 is dependant on van Persie staying fit - something he hasn’t been able to do for large chunks of his career.
Sergie Aguero is the man most likely to beat him - if he too can stay fit.
The Manchester City striker will benefit from his team’s creative riches; it seems inevitable he will score a hatful of goals this season.
Aguero got off the mark against Newcastle on Monday night and looked as sharp as ever.
Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke (12-1), Spurs’ Roberto Soldado (16-1) and Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge (16-1) are already up and running in the goalscoring charts, but if you fancy Aguero to hit the net with frequency, then what about his team-mate Edin Dzeko?
A rejuvenated Dzeko was excellent against Newcastle, but didn’t get the goal he deserved.
He can be backed at 25-1 to be top scorer. With each-way covering the first four places, that looks a fair price.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Sergio Aguero to be top Premier League goal scorer, 8-1 (general); Edin Dzeko, each-way, 25-1 (general).
