THE 4-0 victory over Newcastle United was about as comfortable a start to the Premier League season as we could possibly have hoped for.
Even before Steven Taylor’s red card on the stroke of half-time, the Magpies had not threatened Joe Hart’s goal and we looked untroubled.
We played some great football in Manuel Pellegrini’s first competitive game in charge, and the atmosphere was excellent.
Sergio Aguero looked superb up front alongside Edin Dzeko, who did everything except score.
The new signings have settled in very well since their summer arrival. Jesus Navas and Alberto Negredo know each other already of course, having been team-mates at club and international level.
Fernandinho speaks Spanish so he has integrated well, and Stevan Jovetic is fluent in the same language as Dzeko and Alex Kolarov.
Jesus and Fernandinho did very well on their first starts for the club, and Alberto looked lively when he came on as a substitute late on.
We know there will be many sterner tests to come this season but there is a lot of enthusiasm and excitement around the Etihad Stadium at the moment and hopefully we can build on a fine start which sent us straight to the top of the table.
