So glad to see Hart on City beat

I WAS delighted Joe Hart lined up for Manchester City in the 3-1 victory over Everton.

In this country we have a habit of building players up then knocking them down. The national media seem to love it. I will never understand why we have that mentality. Over the last week Joe has been in the firing line. Next week it will be someone else.

He is number one for club and country and he has shown great resilience to stand up and get on with his football.

It isn’t easy being a goalkeeper. Over the space of three games you can make 40 brilliant saves, but if you make one mistake, that’s what everyone talks about.

It was vital to earn a victory over Everton because we suffered at the hands of a world-class Bayern Munich side a few days earlier in the UEFA Champions League.

That was the most complete team performance I have witnessed for many a year; it’is hard to look past the Germans and Barcelona when picking a tournament winner.

One positive thing was Alvaro Negredo’s fine strike in the closing stages. He is a real handful, an old-fashioned sort of centre-forward and he struck again in Saturday’s triumph over the Toffees.

Alvaro is in fine form at the moment, and long may it continue.

I felt we showed great character to come back and get the better of Roberto Martinez’s men, especially after losing our previous two matches..
