STARS AND STRIPES IN HIS EYES: Dave Baxendale is kit man for the USA Tomahawks at the World Cup.
RUGBY:
THE NATIONAL Conference League season may be over - but the work has only just begun for one Oldham St Anne’s stalwart.
Dave Baxendale is set for a walk-on role in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, thanks to links forged by his son.
Dave Baxendale, who assists from the Saints dugout, will be kit manager for the USA Tomahawks, who start their campaign with a game against the Cook Islands in Bristol on Wednesday.
“My son Gareth moved to New York a decade ago and for the last six years has captained the New York Knights,” Dave explained.
“I started helping out on matchdays when I went over to visit. I spent a week with them when they played two games against Ireland. Then I was asked to come on board for the World Cup, which I am delighted to do.”
After the Cook Islands, the USA — whose squad is based in Warrington - take on Wales on November 3 and Scotland in Salford on November 7.
