Fred Whithead former Director Oldham Athletic
FORMER Athletic director Fred Whitehead has died at the age of 84.
Mr Whitehead, who was on the board at Boundary Park from 1972 to 1982, passed away in Total Care, Chadderton, after a lengthy illness.
Born and raised in Chadderton, the lifelong Latics fans had two local building firms — FD Whitehead Building Services and Holroy Developments Ltd — and he built the Boundary Club (Clayton Arms) in 1970 and after that the attached sports hall.
Mr Whitehead (picctured, below) leaves sons Paul — who has worked in the ticket office at Boundary Park on matchdays for 39 years — Peter, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one of whom is the son of Athletic player David Mellor.
The funeral takes place on Wednesday, November 27, at St Herbert’s, Broadway, at 10am followed by committal at Oldham Crematorium at 11.30am.
