Blues gear up for success

CLUB skipper Vincent Kompany is convinced Manchester City are on the brink of something special as they gear up to start the New Year with a tough trip to Swansea City.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side contest the first Premier League game of 2014 in the early kick-off (12.45pm) at the Liberty Stadium tomorrow.
It hasn’t been the happiest of hunting grounds for City in the past – Swansea beat Roberto Mancini’s megastars in the spring of 2012 before a goalless draw when the sides met in South Wales last season.
But City will undoubtedly be confident about their chances of changing that record, having eased menacingly into second place in the table.
The Blues have won ten of their last 11 matches – the other was a draw at Southampton – in all competitions since losing at Sunderland in early November. Belgian star Kompany is confident there are many more good times ahead.
“We’ve put ourselves in a nice position for the second half of the season,” he said.
“It’s been an intense first half of the season and if the second half is as intense and as good, then we’ll be looking at an incredible season.”
