Boxing: RONNIE Heffron can’t wait to be unleashed on Edinburgh light-middleweight rival John Thain at the Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool on March 8.

Heffron (23) has recovered from the hand injury that forced him out of a WBO European title clash with Joe Selkirk in December.

The Oldham ace, who has only been beaten by Commonwealth king Denton Vassell during a 15-fight professional career, is now raring to go, having also decided to make a switch of trainers from Ben Lancaster at Boarshaw, to Bobby Rimmer in Denton.

Thain (26) — unbeaten in 11 fights — is next on Heffron’s radar, with the winner already pencilled in to challenge Selkirk in the spring or summer.

Heffron said: “I feel great and I’m really confident that I can knock out Thain. I made the decision to join Bobby Rimmer and so far it’s definitely been the right one.”

Some onlookers may see Thain as a threat to Heffron’s European title ambitions, but the two-time ABA champion is having none of it.

He added: “I didn’t think twice when I got offered the fight. It’ll look good on my CV when I’ve beaten an unbeaten fighter, so bring it on. I want this to be a brilliant year and hopefully I’ll get it off to the best start at Aintree.”
