AMY Clinton produced an inspired shooting display to fire Oldham to a 53-34 home success over previously unbeaten Chester.

Clinton drew praise from coach Debbie Hallas, who said: “I was more than pleased with the overall performance. The players knew they had to work hard from the first whistle and they did.

“Amy Clinton was superb against a very tough defence. Amy scored 94-per-cent of her shots which just proves she is one to watch.”

After a defeat against Bury last week — and having lost to Chester in the previous meeting — OIdham knew they had it all to do, but a strong first-quarter showing saw them open up an 18-8 lead, with the defence rising to the challenge by turning the ball over 15 times.

The second quarter was also Oldham’s (13-9) and after claiming the third (10-8) the lead was 41-25 in the final stages.

Though at times disjointed in the final quarter, Oldham came out 12-9 winners to claim the overall contest comfortably.
