SIR Alex Ferguson was always going to be a very hard act to follow, so I suppose it’s been ro real surprise to see David Moyes struggling a bit this season.

I’m not privvy to what might have gone on internally at United, but at the end of the day managers are judged on positive results and Moyes has ended up paying the price for not getting enough of them.

A massive club like United will expect to reach the Champions League at least, so to be missing out next season will have been a real blow for the powers-that-be there.

United are going through a transitional period, but again the big chiefs there will have expected to be much higher than seventh in the table at this stage of the season.

It’s going to be interesting to see which way they go now in terms of whether they turn to a British manager or a foreign coach.

Whoever they go for in the end, it’s a massive decision.

City have gone down the European route in recent years and it’s worked out well, particularly this season under Mr Pellegrini.

Back at City and it’s going to be another nail-biting weekend. The Premier League title race is definitely not over yet. If Chelsea win at Liverpool on Sunday and City win their game in hand, it’s back on level points and all up in the air again.

I still feel there’s more twists and turns to come yet. It’s just been a fascinating race this year.

The next task for City is away at Palace this weekend. It’s not an easy one, but it’s definitely winnable.
