The City kit boss and former Latics star ends his season on a high!
SUNDAY was probably the best day I’ve ever experienced in my 22 years with Manchester City.
It was a memorable day in so many different ways. Winning the Premier League title again was the big achievement of course. City have been the best team, with the best players, throughout this season and thoroughly deserved to come out on top. It does feel a little different than when City won it in the dying seconds against QPR two years ago.
This time wasn’t as dramatic or as uncomfortable for everyone involved, but now we’ve got a happier team and a happier club.
It was pretty much set up for City going into Sunday. We already had that couple of points cushion over Liverpool and the players were supremely confident once again.
It was comfortable in the end, City murdered West Ham and looking back now, with a banging head after Sunday night’s celebrations, it’s a very satisfying feeling for everyone involved with the club.
It was a momentous day for me personally, too. After 17 years as kit manager I’m moving on – not from the club altogether, but to a different role. I’m looking after the kit this week for the trip to Abu Dhabi, then that’s it.
I’ve had a brilliant relationship with the players since the day I walked into City. It’s become even more special following all the success we’ve had in recent seasons, and that’s why I was so unbelievably touched on Sunday night when the players presented me with a quite beautiful engraved Rolex watch.
I’ll still see the players from time to time in my new capacity working for the club website, but I’ll miss the day-to-day banter that goes on in training.
I have been so lucky to work for such a great club, but now I’m expecting this team to become even greater and win even more titles and trophies – and conquer Europe.
I’ll reflect on a few of my happiest memories as kit manager next week before I sign off for the summer.
