Unnecessary questions rile Reds boss

MANCHESTER United boss Louis van Gaal admits he was “stupid” to invite people to analyse his reign after three months.

When the Dutchman took charge at Old Trafford in July he suggested his impact could not be truly measured until he was at least three months into the job.

Van Gaal still believes it will take time to impose his philosophy, but now the initial period is up he feels he is having to answer questions he feels are unnecessary.

The 63 year old said: “It was very stupid to say three months because then the media is only talking about three months. It is always the performance that counts, but the performance always goes up and down.”

United made an indifferent start under Van Gaal but, with £150million spent on new players over the summer, he is moulding a new team.

He expects the process to take time but he is confident, from experience, that everything will come good.

Van Gaal feels United are still looking for the spark that could provide a turning point, despite successive wins over West Ham and Everton. He thinks it could come at any time.

United will be looking to build on recent momentum as they travel to West Brom tonight.

The trip to The Hawthorns is United’s last chance to sharpen up ahead of their big double–header against Chelsea and Manchester City in the coming weeks.
