Touch of class told in the end

CLASS told in the end as Manchester City eventually saw off brave Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup at the Etihad.

It was always going to be a tougher task for City than when they hammered Wednesday 7-0 in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season.

Wednesday manager Stuart Gray learned much from that beating and changed tactics accordingly.

Wednesday defended solidly, trying their best to stifle City, I guess.

Being able to bring on David Silva and Samir Nasri made a massive difference and in the end, top quality players always deliver.

January is going to be a big month in the grand scheme of things. While there’s been progress in the Champions League and the FA Cup, the Premier League race is also hotting up.

City have got Chelsea to play this month, and the next home game is against Arsenal.

I always thought City would be on top of the table by mid-January, and I’ll stick with that.

Chelsea had some dodgy results over Christmas. City are neck-and-neck with them at present, but I fancy Manuel Pellegrini’s men to overtake them soon.

Once everybody is fit I would take City to beat any team in the world on their day.

:: I’ve been busy with some City website features again, and there’s a good one just gone on there about the much talked-about “boring James Milner”.

To be fair, James got involved and went far further than we expected. He really is a cracking lad and I hope he stays at City for a few years to come.
