George really was the best

WITH just 13 league games to go, there can be few further slip-ups from Manchester City if they are to claw back the seven-point gap on leaders Chelsea.

Every game is massive from here on in. City were magnificent winning 4-1 at Stoke last week, and scored some great goals in a very tough fixture.

But the way it’s going, City will probably have to win all their remaining games to retain the title.

It’s a well-used cliche, but City need to take each game as it comes, starting with the home clash against Newcastle on Saturday.

That won’t be easy, but if they play like they did at Stoke it will keep up the pressure on Chelsea - who only need to lose or draw ne to put City back in contention

Then it’s Barcelona next Tuesday in the Champions League. Everyone at the club can’t wait for that game, but I notice Lionel Messi notched yet another hat-trick at the weekend - his 23rd for Barcelona!

He really is phenomenal.

I’ve been asked whether he’s the best ever, but I’m not so sure. Diego Maradona was fantastic on his day, but the best player I’ve ever seen was George Best.

I know there was nowhere near the same coverage of football back in his day but for me George was the best of the lot. He had it all – skills, grace, style. He was unforgettable.
