Cup Winners South Failsworth
IT proved to be a dream day at Wembley Stadium for South Failsworth Primary School yesterday as they won the Kinder+Sport League One Kids’ Cup on the national stadium’s hallowed turf.
Kyle Carnell grabbed the only goal of the game as South Failsworth, representing Athletic, defeated Crawley Town’s counterparts from the Oaks School.
Included in the South Failsworth squad were goalkeeper and captain Joe Lawton, Carnell, Lewis Eaton, Tommy Ferris, Mehki Armstrong, Ryan Frost, Ben Yates, Corey Campbell and Leo Dockray.
Athletic’s assistant manager Dean Holden tweeted his congratulations to the team after game, saying: “Well done lads, showing the first team how to do it.”
It was a case of third time lucky for South Failsworth after they had lost their previous two Kids’ Cup final bids at Wembley in 2010 and 2012.
