OLDHAM’S Nicola White and her Great Britain team are closing in on glory in the World League Semi-Finals in Valencia, Spain. The tournament also offers Rio Olympics qualification as a prize.
Danny Kerry’s team currently sits proudly on top of its tournament group with two more wins over the weekend.
Holcombe forward White helped Great Britain to a 2-0 win against Argentina – their first against the South Americans since 1996 – on Saturday as goals from Hannah Macleod and Sophie Bray proved decisive. Last night Great Britain made it three wins in three as they powered to a 4-2 success against Canada thanks to strikes from Bray (two), Alex Danson and Georgie Twigg.
Kerry’s team rounds off its group matches tomorrow against China. The top three teams – out of 10 in action in Valencia – qualify for Rio.
