Promoters MODUS Sports Events have also announced the addition of two of the most entertaining players ever to grace the sport to this year’s line-up in the form Premier League star Peter Wright and Wayne Mardle, now a high-profile commentator and pundit, while former World champion Stephen Bunting completes an improved field.
Van Gerwen, who was beaten by eventual winner Webster in last year’s event, has expressed his desire to take the title this time around.
“I really want to win this so I’m looking forward to coming back to Oldham,” said the former Premier League and World champion.
“Last year was a fantastic night, fantastic crowd and fantastic line-up. If anything, the line-up for the next event is even stronger so I will have to be at my best but I have won most tournaments and I want to win this one too.”
