STAYING afloat . . . Shaw and District Disabled Association swimming class has been saved by a charity grant from Forever Manchester
A DISABLED swimming group struggling to keep its head above water has ben able to breathe a huge sigh of relief after being thrown a lifeline.
Shaw and District Disabled Association received a grant of £3,640 thanks to Forever Manchester and Sport Relief.
The threatened club, which meets every fortnight at Shaw Baths, can now continue for the next two years. But the group will still be threatened with closure if the pool is closed — as proposed in Oldham Council’s leisure review.
Joanne Lewis-Ryan, campaigner and member of the association, said: “The grant is great news for the group, as we have 40 members of the class, and they love it.
“We are still fighting to have a baths in Shaw, because we would not continue otherwise, which is really sad, as the swimming group has been going for 25 years and it’s what the members look forward to.”
