DANGER bends: Buckstones Road is full of twists and turns
PLANS to raise the speed limit on a busy Shaw road will do nothing to deter thoughtless drivers.
Lib-Dem leader, Councillor Howard Sykes disagrees with a proposal for a 40mph zone on Buckstones Road.
If approved, the zone would run from the junction at Ripponden Road to the Black Ladd pub.
There would then be a “gateway” into a 30mph section with enhanced road markings to the junction with Milnrow Road.
A report says councillors and residents are concerned about the speed of traffic on Buckstones Road with its bends and steep inclines.
In the three years to December 31, four accidents resulted in injuries. The proposals are designed to allow speeds suitable to each part of the road.
Councillor Sykes says the proposed speed increase “lacks common sense and imagination.”
“This issue has been a problem for the last 15 years and it is getting worse now as there is more traffic on the road and more community activity,” he said.
“I’m not talking about all drivers, but the irresponsible ones fly round the bends way too fast. How can the answer be to increase the speed limit? We need an outbreak of common sense and a more imaginative solution.”
