Just what the doctor ordered

EXAM despair has turned to elation for Shaw teenager Chloe Livesey, who narrowly missed out on a place at university last year in the mad scramble for pre-fee increase places.

This year a re-sit has turned the B grade in chemistry into another A — and Chloe has won a place at Birmingham to study medicine.

Despite achieving three As and a B in her A-level results last year, her results weren’t quite good enough at a time universities couuld pick their ideal candidates from the extra influx keen to beat the fee increase.

Chloe (19), of Manor Road, said: “I’m really thrilled to have finally got there. When I got my results last year I thought I would have to say goodbye to my dreams forever.

“People kept telling me to give up and do something else because universities don’t like second applications and it’s really hard to get into medicine, but I thought no, it’s what I want to do, so I gave it one last shot. Now I have proved you should never give up, and it’s brilliant.”

Chloe now faces seven years of study to reach her goal of becoming a doctor, and the £15,000 it would have cost for the initial five-year degree has soared to £45,000.
