Cross on show

THE Dachau cross will be on display at St Anne’s Church, Royton, from noon-4pm on Saturday. The sculpture was created as a memorial to human suffering and was first shown in Oldham in 1968.

THE Taebaek School of Taekwondo is hosting Macmillan coffee mornings from 5.30pm on Monday, September 24, through until September 28. Pop in for a brew and a cake at Unit A, First Floor, Shepherd Street in Royton.



SHARPEN your pencils and your wits for the annual quiz night run by Macmillan Cancer Support’s Shaw and Crompton voluntary committee. Tickets for the fund-raising event, from 8pm on Friday October, 12, at High Crompton Conservative Club, are priced at £2.50, which includes supper. Call Dorothy on 01706-846 951.



TRINITY Methodist Church, Radcliffe Street, Royton, is holding a table-top sale on Saturday from 9.30am to noon. Entry is free with funds raised going to the church or charity.



JOHN Morrison will be the speaker at Crompton History Society’s next gathering. The former Oldham police officer will give a talk on the “History of the English Police” at Crompton Library, on Thursday, September 27, at 7.30pm. Admission is £1 including refreshments.



SIXTH formers at Crompton House School reached new heights with a motivational talk by mountaineer Nigel Vardy to gee them up for the start of the school year.



SHAW and Crompton Parish Council’s Chairman’s Walk was a success with about a dozen people taking part in the 11-mile stroll around the Crompton circuit. Chairman Councillor David Dunning said “My thanks to all who helped organise the event.”
