Eager beavers

NEW recruits are being taken on for 1st Shaw Scouts. Anyone interested in becoming a beaver must be aged between six and eight and 8.
The group meets on Mondays between 6.15 and 7.30pm at St Joseph’s Parish Centre in Shaw. Contact Louise on 07854455448.
DISCUSS local issues with Shaw councillors Howard Sykes, Rod Blyth and Mark Alcock at the Lifelong Learning Centre. Sessions take place between 7.30 and 8.30pm on Thursday, June 6.
ROYTON Townswomen’s Guild is holding its annual opening evening on Tuesday, June 11, from 7.30pm. Paul Taylor from Daisy Nook Garden Centre will be answering questions on gardening and demonstrating how to create a perfect hanging basket. Admission is £5 including refreshments. All proceeds to the Macular Society, which is the group’s chosen charity for 2013.
STALLS selling local produce will be up and running from 11am-3pm on Sunday, at Royton precinct.
A CREATIVE crafts fair is taking place at Holy Trinity Church parish hall in Shaw, from 9am-2pm on Saturday, June 8.
ROYTON Local History Society is hosting a talk about the Lancashire Witches on Monday, June 10. Speaker John Doughty will talk about the trials of 19 witches at the Midsummer Assizes in Lancaster and whether they were innocent victims caught up in a pattern of persecution and intrigue. The group meets from 7.30pm at Downey House.
ST ANNE’S Church in Royton is now collecting donations of all things Italian and French. It is hoping to make up hampers to sell at its Winter Wonderland event on November 17.
