Walk for Ben

A sponsored walk will be held on Sunday in memory of 14-year-old Ben Fitchett, who died after falling from a motorway bridge.

The walk will begin at the North Star Inn at 8am. All proceeds go to PAPYRUS, a charity working for the prevention of young suicide. Visit www.justgiving.com/Shaw-hopewalk to donate to the cause.


SHAW primary schools are holding a choral festival tomorrow at East Crompton St James’ church, from 7 to 9pm. Pupils from St Joseph’s, St Mary’s, St George’s and Farrowdale House will sing two hymns each before a panel of judges. Admission is £1 for adults and 50p for children.


CROMPTON House School is celebrating after its cross-country teams excelled in the cross-country championship first round at Chadderton Hall Park, especially Marcus Dey who won the junior boys race. The junior girls came third overall and the inter boys came first, with both qualifying for the regional final on Saturday, November 9.


SORELLE is holding a charity fashion show tomorrow at Heyside cricket club, from 7.30pm. Tickets are £2.50 and can be bought at Sorelle, L&L Hair Desig,n in Shaw Road, and Heyside cricket club.


A QUIZ night will be held at High Crompton Conservative Club tomorrow, at 8pm, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Entry is £2.50 a head and teams of four are preferred. There will also be a supper and raffle. Call 01706-846955 for more information.
