Marathon effort

RUNNER Simon Howard from Shaw, completed the Edinburgh marathon in 5 hours, 14 minutes, battling through terrible weather. He raised over £160 for Epilepsy Bereaved in memory of his stepson Aaron Ashforth.



ENJOY a brew at the Salvation Army’s coffee morning at Farrow Street, Shaw, from 10.30am-noon on Saturday.



CROMPTON Bowling Club is holding a fundraising day including three artists and a raffle, from 12.30pm on Sunday. The Dutchess Street club is desperate to increase its membership and attract sponsors.



DISCUSS police issues at a surgery at Trinity Methodist Church, Radcliffe Street, Royton from 10am-noon on Thursday, June 2.



STALL helpers and homebaked goods are required for a strawberry fair and garden party at St Anne’s Church in Royton on Sunday, June 26. If you can help, contact Marian at the church.



THE chairman of Shaw and Crompton Parish Council, Councillor John Hall, will hold his civic service at St James’s East Crompton Church in Shaw, on Sunday, June 5.



PLACES are now available for children aged 8-10 to join 8th Shaw Cubs who meet at St Paul’s Church on Rochdale Road, every Monday from 7-8.30pm.
