Jazz band funeral for Hilda
Date published: 16 October 2012
A TRADITIONAL jazz band will accompany the funeral cortege of one of Oldham’s oldest women.
Hilda Wright (104) — born in the year the Model T Ford was introduced - lived at Edgehill Residential Care Home in Royton.
The sprightly grandma made the headlines on her 102nd birthday when she sat astride the Yamaha 2009 YZF-R1 bike that nine-times world motor-cycle champion Valentino Rossi raced round the Isle of Man TT circuit.
Hilda was also a huge fan of traditional jazz and sequence dancing. Daughter Freda Eason, of Alpine Grove, Royton, said: “Jazz was her favourite music so we decided it was only right that a band should meet her funeral car at the crematorium gate and accompany us to the service.’
The funeral is at Oldham Crematorium on Thursday at 1.30pm
